Chad A Mirkin

Professor Mirkin is a chemist and a world renowned nanoscience expert, who is known for his development of nanoparticle-based biodetection schemes, the invention of Dip-Pen Nanolithography, and contributions to supramolecular chemistry, nanoelectronics, and nanoptics. He is the author of over 430 manuscripts and over 370 patents and applications, and the found of three companies, Nanosphere, NanoInk, and Aurasense which are commercializing nanotechnology applications in the life science and semiconductor industries. Currently he is listed as the most cited (based on total citations) chemist in the world with the second highest impact factor and the top most cited nanomedicine researcher in the world. NCI Launches Next Phase of Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer Program

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded five-year, multi-institution grants in continued support of its
Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer program. The Alliance is engaged in efforts to leverage the specific advantages of nanotechnology to improve the way we diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer. Researchers involved in the program have developed a host of novel technologies, with several of them undergoing commercialization and clinical trials. Given the progress to date, the NCI approved a second phase of the program with an investment of approximately $30 million per year for the next five years. read more

New Mexico Cancer Nanotech Training Center

The New Mexico Cancer Nanoscience and Microsystems Training Center (CNTC) provides fellowships to graduate students and postdocs whose interdisciplinary research uses nanoscale tools and approaches to understand the properties of cancer cells and to discover and develop research tools, diagnostic tools, and therapeutic agents that will reduce suffering and death due to cancer. The CNTC's funding is from The NCI Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer, a national resource that links physical and computational scientists, engineers and technologists working at the nanoscale with cancer biologists developing the next generation of diagnostic and therapeutic tools and oncologists specializing in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer. read more

Our group develops novel approaches to the synthesis, processing, integration and understanding of porous, composite, and complex nanostructured materials. The Brinker group — comprising scientists from around the world — includes staff from the University and Sandia as well as students (MS and PhD candidates, undergraduate and high school interns), post-docs, visiting faculty, and visiting industry scientists, as well as participants in various summer education programs.
